It's been awhile since our dog (actually, she's still a puppy at 9 months old), Ruby has been seen on my blog. I try not to be the obnoxious "mother" who continually shows off pictures of her "baby", but she has grown so much, I feel that it's time for another glimpse of her. Two days a week, I work from home, so I get to see what Ruby does all day. I had images of her prancing around in the back yard, happily jumping on all the furniture, chasing birds, etc. in my head. But in reality, she sleeps. That's pretty much what she does all day, saving her energy for when Andy gets home. At that point, she doesn't stop. For anything. She loves Andy. But, here she is in her normal daytime mode.
I think she was irritated with me for interupting her nap. Sorry, Ruby. She has dirt on her nose - evidence of her earlier quest to find the gopher in the back yard. Isn't she beautiful? Okay, enough of that.
While I was photographing Ruby, I turned around and took some pics of the piano. This piano has been in my life from the time I was three. My dad bought it for my mom for a birthday, or Christmas, or something gift. When they got it, we were living in a tiny two bedroom apartment - my parents, my older brother, and my sister Julie, who was a baby. Dad was building our home, and it wasn't ready for move in yet, so the piano was the centerpiece of the entire apartment. I have vague memories of playing under the piano with Julie, as she was learning to crawl. After we moved into my childhood home, the piano had a special place in the living room. My siblings, and I had the requisite piano lessons throughout our youth - I think I took piano for 5 years and never got past book 2. But the piano was there for Mom, and she played it every day. Every single day, usually when we wanted to watch our favorite TV show - I remember all of us yelling at her to PLEASE STOP!!! I'm glad she never did. She played and sang beautifully, and that's one of the most poignant memories of my childhood. fast forward several years, Mom buys another grand piano to put in her house in the country. It was a newer, bigger piano, but not the same. When Mom sold the country house, she moved the new piano to her home she lives in now, and the old piano has been drifting around the family.
She has decided to give it to my nephew, Trevor, who is extremely talented, musically (and probably in other ways, as well). Trevor is still in college, living in an apartment with several roommates, so the piano is visiting our house for a while. Trevor emailed me and mentioned that he might be coming for the piano someday soon, so I wanted to get a good last look, before I have to say good-bye. I'm not really sad that it has to go - it just sits there silently waiting for someone to make music. Trevor will make music with this beautiful old piece of family history.
She is getting big!
