Guest room fix up

So, back to the chair of two posts ago.  After my sweet Andy built my studio for me, we had this tiny, dark little room upstairs with no purpose.  I thought it would be nice to have a room where the grandchildren could play their video games, watch TV and possibly even sleep in when they stay over.  I found an inspiration room in Creative Home magazine back in Fall of 2007 that I thought would be perfect, but, it would require a lot of Andy's time.  (Lot's of built-ins.) The paper is all crunched up because I carried it around in my purse for a couple of months, buying fabric, etc.

 

The room in the photo looks alot bigger than ours, but with Andy's magic, I knew it would work.  Our room, which is about 9 x 10 wouldn't allow room for a coffee table, and the chair in my previos post is just outside of the photo (I really need a wide angle lense), but here it is.

 

I have a bureau on the other side of the room that belonged to my mother when she was a small girl, painted white to match the woodwork of the wall piece.  The TV and game stuff sits on that.  I also have a small coffee table that my Dad made in 7th grade wood shop, but it needs to be painted, and I'm not going to put it in here until the kids are older. I keep the bed linens and some quilts in the storage below the bed, and games, etc. go in the cabinets to the side of the bed.  It's just perfect for this space.  Lindsey claims that this is her room.

A couple of years ago, our oldest daughter, Cori, asked her dad to build a playhouse for Lindsey.  Not only a playhouse, but also a place to store lawn equipment, etc.  Of course, Andy did it.  These pictures were taken before the painting was complete - wait - they are over a year old, and the painting is still incomplete!

 

This view is from straight ahead.  You can see the dutch door, which really works.  The windows all open (they are made from plexiglass - with so many children playing in this backyard, we didn't want glass issues), and Cori did a cute job with the flower boxes on the roof.  By the way, the reason the roof is so steep, is because on the back side of this building is the lawn equipment storage, and the "attic" area provides more storage.  You can see how deep the house is in this photo:

 

It goes back several more feet, and there is an access door on the other side.  Cori did a really nice job of tiling the floor with 2" black and white porcelan tiles, and there is a pink chandelier inside!  I don't have interior shots, but if she every finishes the curtains (from some really cute childlike toille) and cleans it up, I'll take some!  (I just hope she gets it done before Lindsey outgrows the house.

I talked about my sweet husband, Andy, in my last post, but what I didn't say was how much he does for everyone.  He is literally, the hardest working person I have ever known.  Hands down.  He loves to do things for anyone who asks, which includes me!  He is very talented in taking an idea, or photo, of something and turning it into reality.  Many of our family members have been lucky beneficiaries of this talent.  Most recently, he's been working on getting my daughter, Cori's front yard converted to grass (it's a huge project).  One would think that when he got home each day, he would collapse on the couch (like me), or jump in the pool - it has been in the 110 degree range, lately.  But no, what does he do?  He builds me two redwood chaise lounges that I have had on a wish list for a while!  He never stops! 

A couple of years ago, we toured the Sunset Magazine's Design house in Verado, and in the back pool area, were some chaise lounges that I really liked.  I took some pictures, and here they are!  Granted, it took awhile, but Andy was in the middle of doing other projects at the time.  In a future blog, I'll put a gallery of his creations - they're pretty impressive!
